This webpage was discussed and promised as an outcome of the "State of the Movement" Meeting at the XVIARC2011 at Easter 2011. The page and ongoing discussion is the work of Nathan Vellin of Cahal, Society of Cultural Lore. The page was uploaded on 16 August 2011 after an extensive delay on the part of Danelaw's Webmaster. Danelaw apologises for the delay to Nathan and to all of those re-enactors who are dying to put their hand up to host and /or support the XVIIARC2013. Over to you Nathan ...

Firstly, Congratulations to Danelaw for XVIARC, without a doubt the best Conference to date.

Danelaw, Uppsala and everyone that assisted them (there are too many names to list here), set a new benchmark with a fun and social Conference second to none, and really, that's what its all about (apart from the drinking, fighting, crafting, feasting and chasing of wenches of course).

But onto the item at hand, XVIIARC 2013.

In the state of the movement meeting, it was established that everyone is a little cautious of the task ahead, and so far no one has put up their hand to host Conference for 2013. There was a general feeling that either their club was not quite ready for such an event, or if it was, they felt that they could not speak on behalf of their club.

So lets keep the conversation flowing, and get this thing happening.

At this stage we need one of two things:

A club to put up their hand and say “Yes, we will host 2013”.
or
Volunteers who are passionate about Conference and are willing to form a committee to oversee the running of the event.

Ideally a club (or two) will host the next Conference, but if no club will, we need a backup plan.

If you think you can help by being on a committee for XVIIARC 2013 then I know that I for one would be more than happy to join you at that table and 'Host' the next Conference.

And being a hosting club or a committee member its not such a big task as it has been in the past. Almost everyone at that meeting put up their hand and said that they would be able to help in some way or another, many hands make light work and we have many, many hands.

A site is usually the biggest issue at hand, and ultimately the hosts will choose where Conference is held. But if you are cautious about putting up your hand because of the hassle of establishing a site, just remember that Danelaw has a site ready to use, with a damn good infrastructure. And even if distance is an issue, there are local clubs that would be more than happy to act as liaisons for the Dunghaven site.

The support is there for the hosts, its even being collected as you read this, by people from all over Australia sending in email's of how they can help out.

So to keep this ball rolling and gaining momentum, XVIIARC 2013 needs you to send an email with one of three Subject Lines.

Hosting:
Clubs that are willing to host, or assist in hosting.
Individuals that are willing to be on the committee or assist a hosting club in administrative tasks.

Assistance:
Things you can do to help the Hosts make their jobs easier and make 2013 even more awesome than 2011.

Other:
Suggestions, Feedback etc.

With one of those three Subject Lines in mind, please send all information regarding XVIIARC 2013 to:

XVIIARC2013@gmail.com

There is almost 2 years to prepare for this event, and with the vast amount of people who can help, an awesome site with a pre established infrastructure, and advise from those who have run large events before, Conference is no where near as daunting a task as what it seems.

I will read each and every email, and pass on all relevant information to those people who need it until the hosts are ready to take the reigns.

Please make sure that all relevant info passes through this channel, that way those who need this information (be it a hosting group, a committee, or somewhere in between) can be up to date at a moments notice.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Cheers,

Nathan Vellin.

And remember...
